Project Title

Role of Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan (AKESP) in Strengthening the Social Capital of Pakistan

Description

The objective of my research paper was to examine the role of Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan (AKESP), one of the agencies of AKDN as a non-state organization in strengthening the social capital of Pakistan. With a particular focus on social capital, this research also analyzed how social capital can be developed through mechanisms such as learning in Aga Khan Schools, volunteerism, engagement in networks, making strong connections and relationships, enforcing shared norms, raising societal aspirations, promoting pluralism, and peace. The findings indicated that as a part of the Aga Khan Development Network, AKESP is playing a crucial role in enhancing the social capital of Pakistan, but is limited to specific regions such as Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, and Karachi. Reciprocity is maintained, and enforced collective action patterns are greatly facilitated.
